Obviously do not read beyond this point if you haven't played Cytus 2 up until the CURRENT ending (capped the three free characters to level 35).
This story update went live for almost a week now and I just got to it today. It's sadly pretty short, but they'll no doubt expand on it later in another update, yet the plot thickens nonetheless! When we last left off with the story, we finally discovered with certainty that Aesir-Fest indeed occured and Aesir did make an appearance, however, there was still no explanation as to why everyone's memories were quite literally wiped nor why people ended up ill every time they attempted to recollect memories of that day, NEKO was still in custody, theres no news on PAFF, and we still aren't sure if what happened at Aesir-Fest or the recent strings of hackings are connected. We are also left with this mysterious android whom appears to be referred to as "Vanessa". Is it THE Vanessa from the first Cytus? Well, we aren't sure yet. Anyways, with the latest update and story expansion, we begin with Xenon and Cherry picking up NEKO from the precinct and we discover NEKO has been released from custody (*sarcastically* yaaaaaaay...), and we also finally find out why there have been no news on PAFF: Mono has been covering up the fact PAFF has left the hospital without notifying anyone and has gone missing!
Now i'm not 100% sure what's going on in Cytus 2, but it's not as vague as Cytus was, so here's what I believe the plot is thus far: As we see in the game's opening, a virtual event called Aesir-Fest has been announced by the legendary DJ/musician by the same name (Aesir). Without any explanation, according to Xenon and a a few others, there was a "blackout" and everyone that participated in the event suddenly have no recollection of what happened that day...not only that, but Aesir appears to have completely vanished from the radar. On top of that, there have been a string of hacks and incidents that would cause users to become ill and they may even fall into a coma. One such incident affects participants of pop idol, PAFF's virtual concert, causing PAFF, as well as users, to collapse into a coma. Another incident affects streamer/musician, NEKO, as well as countless users when a mysterious call goes out, which, for unknown reasons, leads to NEKO's arrest for interrogation. While this is all happening, users and another DJ/musician, ROBO_Head, try to piece together what they can remember of Aesir-Fest and figure out what exactly happened. At the same time, Xenon, as well as his ex-girlfriend and former bandmate Cherry, take it upon themselves to try and figure out who's behind these hackings personally rather than waiting for an explanation from the "admins". During their investigation, they happen upon a warehouse where they encounter a young woman (or girl, however you wish to interpret her), who appears to see Xenon and Cherry as a threat and opens fire, wounding Xenon. Thanks to Cherry's quick reaction and sharpshooting, no one was seriously injured and the woman was terminated...and that's not just an odd choice of words; Xenon and Cherry find out the woman was in fact an android. Who she is and who sent her is left unknown (for now). Meanwhile, ROBO_Head finally uncorrupts his data of the day Aesir-Fest occurred and discovers the event did in fact take place; this discovery leads to many users recalling some memories of that day with more clarity, but only just barely. Users are a bit shaken to find out someone managed to completely erase everyone's, except entities like ROBO_Head, memories of Aesir-Fest...and what scares them most is that they don't know why nor if this is going to lead to something much bigger. Fast forward a few days, NEKO's charges are appealed and she is released from custody, meeting up with Xenon (who may be her boyfriend?) and Cherry. Not long after, news is finally given about idol PAFF's condition after fans have been waiting impatiently for such news as well as disappointment after disappointment from a series of long-awaited concerts that only end up being cancelled at the last second. The news, however, isnt good news... Fans are left shocked and outraged when Mono, the company that sponsors PAFF, finally makes public that PAFF somehow escaped the hospital where she was recovering and has disappeared without a trace. At an unknown point in time, a transmission goes out in an attempt to contact someone by the name of "Vanessa", an android in the form of a young, pink-haired woman, who appears to be in a chamber of sorts in an unknown location...
The story expansion leaves us more questions than answers. What are everyone's guesses of what's happening? Personally, I believe Aesir himself is behind the hackings, or is at the very least an accomplice, considering every "glitch" in the game has some sort of connection to Aesir. As for PAFF's situation, the unnamed android Cherry "killed" and this "Vanessa" I'm not sure yet...I need more information to come to any sort of theory/conclusion.
